Employee Pension Contributions Rates to rise

Civil Service Pensions Branch launched a Consultation Exercise on a possible increase in the Employee Contribution to the Civil Service Pensions. The Pension Scheme Yield requires a 5.6% Employee Contribution Rate but it currently brings in about 5.4%. The Consultation Exercise gave 3 options which would each increase the amount of money that working Civil Servants would contribute to the scheme.

CSPA NI responded to the Consultation arguing that Civil Servants have had only modest pay rises for many years , often not maintaining the cost of living , therefore any increase in Employee Contributions , particularly for those in lower grades on modest salaries , would cause financial difficulties. We added that if any increase had to be met to keep the Scheme solvent , we wanted the method that would have the least impact on existing staff.
